Nepal T20 League, an official t20 franchise league of CAN, is all set to start from 23 December

Nepal T20 League is an men's franchise T20 cricket league of Nepal founded by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in 2022. The league consists of six teams representing six different cities of Nepal. The first season of Nepal T20 League will be conducted from 23 December 2022 and final will be played on 10 January 2023. All matches will be played in Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium, Kritipur, Kathmandu. 

Six teams will take part in the inaugural Nepal T20 League. The teams are Kathmandu Knights, Lumbini All Stars, Biratnagar Super Kings, Janakpur Royals, Pokhara Avengers and Farwest United. Player Registration for the Nepali Players was made open from August 27. More than 300 Nepali players registered for the draft. However, only 66 of them were drafted in the final squad. A total of 33 foreign players have been selected by different teams. The players were divided into three different categories: A,B,C.  Category ‘A’ players earn 1.5 million whereas Category B will get a purse of 1 million. Similarly, category C player will receive 0.5 million. 

The league was scheduled to take place from 24 September to 22 October 2022, before getting postponed by the Cricket Association of Nepal on September 15, 2022 after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to postpone owing to the upcoming elections. The league was re-scheduled to start on December 11, but the schedule has been revised again to start from 23 December 2022. The final will be played at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground on January 10, 2023. The league will be played on double round robin and playoff format.

International Records hold by Nepali Cricket Players

There is a long history of Cricket in Nepal.  In 1920s   Cricket   was introduced to   Nepal  for the first time by  M adan Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana,   youngest son of Rana   Prime Minister   Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana . Later in 1946, the cricket governing body-Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) was formed. In 1988 Nepal became an Affiliate Member of International Cricket Council(ICC).
